Can We Make Ayurvedic Medicines at Home and sell commercially (Online/Offline)?

Many of us wants to sell Ayurvedic Medicines online but due to lack of knowledge about requirements and documents, we doesn't proceed toward this. In this article, we will discuss a query which is related to making ayurvedic medicines at home sell it online through various online portals. Here we are going to discuss legal requirements for making ayurvedic medicines at home.

Query:

I read your article related to starting ayurvedic manufacturing company and ayurvedic marketing company and also went through articles related to starting ayurvedic herbal business.

Still I have few doubts in my mind like how can we start ayurvedic medicine business from home and sell online.
Detailed query is as follow: My family is in ayurvedic medicine business from last 70 years and we are making ayurvedic medicines at home. My Grand Father started this 70 years ago. We make medicines for diseases like moles, leukorrhea, piles etc.

Now we want to expand it and sell these medicines online through online portals. What types of licenses will be require for it. We can't set-up ayurvedic manufacturing unit as described by AYUSH department.

How can we proceed in it and can you suggest easy way to the reach of the medicine to more and more people?

Answer:

As you mentioned, your grand father started making ayurvedic medicines. Since last 70 years, Law and orders has been changed a lot. At that time commercial production of ayurvedic medicine wasn't require much formalities. But at present Ayurvedic medicines are also regulated through Drug and Cosmetic Act & Rules.

Your family is making ayurvedic medicines at home to treat some patients that visited to your place. This is at small level by providing medicines from home and hope they are not showing them self as ayurvedic practitioner Because legally only registered vaid/hakim or BAMS doctor can work as a ayurvedic practitioner.

One thing you need to be clear about is that if you want to sell these ayurvedic medicines at commercial basis (i.e. online/offline) then you will require to manufacture these only under a valid ayurvedic manufacturing license. Only by making at home, you can't claim a product as ayurvedic medicine or sell any ayurvedic medicine online or offline.

If you don't want to set-up manufacturing of ayurvedic medicines then you can prepare these products under FSSAI license as herbs made products also come under food category. FSSAI license is easier and less costly project and hardly any technical person requirement in it. But one thing, you have to be careful, at food products, you can't claim any treatment, cure or diagnosis of any disease and can't mention ayurvedic medicines but can make same formula and pack it, and sell it online or offline.

Hope above information is helpful to you....
