What is Ayush?

Ayush word is referred to major alternative systems of medicines in India. ‘A’ Stand for Ayurveda, ‘Y’ stands for Yoga and Naturopathy, ‘U’ stands for Unani, ‘S’ stands for Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and ‘H’ stands for Homeopathy. What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of treatment originated more than 5000 years ago. Ayurveda word is made-up of two words – Ayur and Veda. ‘Ayur’ means Life and ‘Veda’ means Knowledge. So that Ayurveda means knowledge of life or the science of life. The seers of ancients India used their experience, knowledge, observations and natural resources to develop a unique system of treatment which is known as Ayurveda.

Ayurveda treatment is based upon building a balance between three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). Balance between these three dosha is health and imbalance creates disease.

What is Yoga and Naturopathy?

Yoga is related to practices and physical exercises whereas naturopathy is related to treatment based upon vitalism and folk medicines.

Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines helps to provide a foundation and tools for building good habits, such as discipline, self-inquiry, and non-attachment.
Naturopathy or naturopathic medicine is a form of alternative medicine that employs an array of pseudoscientific practices branded as "natural", "non-invasive", or promoting "self-healing". The ideology and methods of naturopathy are based on vitalism and folk medicine, rather than evidence-based medicine.

What is Unani system of Medicines?

Unani system of medicine was founded by ancient greek physician Hippocrates and Galen. Like Ayurveda, Unani system is also based on the theory of presence of the elements in the human body. Their balance leads to good health whereas imbalance leads to illness. Unani medicines are also known as Unani tibb, Arabian medicine or Islamic medicine. It is mostly practiced in South Asian region.

What is Siddha system of medicines?

The Siddha system of medicine is mainly practiced in the Southern part of India. It is one of the earliest traditional medicine systems in the world which treats not only the body but also the mind and the soul. The word Siddha has its origin in the Tamil word Siddhi which means "an object to be attained" or "perfection" or "heavenly bliss".

Siddha system is based upon believe of five basic elements i.e. earth, water, fire, air and sky. Herbal, animal and inorganic chemical compounds are used in siddha practice for treating diseases.

What is Sowa Rigpa system of Medicine?

Traditional Tibetan medicine also known as Sowa-Rigpa medicine, is a centuries-old traditional medical system that employs a complex approach to diagnosis, incorporating techniques such as pulse analysis and urinalysis, and utilizes behavior and dietary modification, medicines composed of natural materials (e.g., herbs and minerals) and physical therapies to treat illness.

What is Homeopathy?

Homoeopathic system of medicine was founded by Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. It is based upon believe that ‘Like cures Like” and ‘Law of minimum dose’.

Like Cure Like: This theory states that a disease can be cured by a substance that produces similar symptoms in healthy people.

Law of minimum dose: This theory states that the lower the dose of the medication, the greater will be its effectiveness.
